Affiliated to ICSE Board, Dagshai Public School, Dagshai Cantt., India., is located at a cool and bracing 6000 feet above sea level, less than 2 hours journey by car from Chandigarh. It is a residential, Co-Educational English Medium School. Founded in 1957 by the Patriot-Poet-Philosopher, Late Bhai Ragbir Singh Bir, the Founder Chairman of the Atam Science Trust, the main objective of the school is to develop character and moral values while imparting excellence in education.
He was succeeded by Mrs. Kuldeep Harbans Singh, an eminent educationalist, in 1974, as Chairperson of the Trust and the Managing Board of DPS. After her demise in 1977, S. Saran Singh I.A.S.(Retd.) Ex-Secretary, Government of India and Ex-advisor to the Governor of Assam, took over as Chairman. Under his inspiring leadership the School made tremendous progress on all fronts. His failing health however, compelled him to relinquish this position in 2011, but he continues to guide us as our Chairman Emeritus.
S. Jasbir Singh Bir, the son of Bhai Ragbir Singh Bir, a retired Senior Executive of Burma Shell and Company Director took over as Chairman in 2011.
The Managing Board of DPS is constituted by the Atam Science Trust and consists of eminent and talented persons from diverse fields i.e. Education, Management, Finance, Engineering and Design/Construction etc. The managing board has delegated necessary powers and authority to the Executive Director of the school. S.Amarjit Singh, Chief Engineer(Retd.) and to the Secretary of the Board , Col (Retd) HS Ahuja, with distinguished service record in the Army. The school is managed by its Principal Mrs Balvinder Kaur Ahuja, who is dynamic, young and experienced.
Aims and Objectives
The school provides modern education with emphasis on moral and ethical values, nurturing character-building, development of mental and physical faculties, and all round hollistic development of children.The school conforms to the teachings of our great saints who encouraged men and women to work together to preserve long cherished human values. It is designed to impart integrated education to children, to promote a spirit of inquiry, equality irrespective of religion or nationality, service to humanity, tolerance, integrity, commitment to work and duty, and above all truthful living as has been taught and practiced by the great Gurus and prophets of humanity.
The School is affiliated to the council of Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi and admits students in L.K.G to class-X. Direct admission to class-X is not given. Minimum age for admission 3 ½ years.
The school admits students from K.G to class-IX.Direct admission to class -X is not granted. Minimum age for admission is 4 years.
Area and Surroundings
The school is spread over thirty acres of land in pleasant, calm and pollution free hilly surroundings. It is situated off the national highway 30 kms from Kalka . The nearest railway stations are Kumarhatti and Dharampur.
